Submitting Out‑of‑Network (OON) Claims in My Best Practice

When a provider is not contracted with a client’s insurance plan, claims are considered Out‑of‑Network (OON). My Best Practice allows you to generate and submit OON claims directly through the platform or provide clients with a downloadable HCFA form they can submit on their own.

This article walks you through the full OON workflow—from setup to submission.

1. Add the OON Insurance Plan to the Client Chart

  1. Navigate to the client’s chart.
  2. Select the Claim Center tab.
  3. Click Add Insurance Plan.
  4. Change the plan type from In‑Network to Out‑of‑Network by selecting In-Network (see screenshot below for reference).
  5. Choose the rendering provider.
  6. Enter all required insured details (subscriber information, policy number, group number, etc.).
  7. Select whether you want to Accept Assignment (payment goes to the provider) or Not Accept Assignment (payment goes directly to the client).
This ensures the claim is created correctly and routed to the appropriate payee.

  • The client’s insurance details

  • Provider credentials

  • Appointment information

  • CPT/diagnosis codes from the session note
